Huawei’s Android 2.2 entry-level phone spied in China, coming in August

Froyo may already be out to the masses in one form or another , but it ain’t doing much good with just the one phone semi-officially supporting this Android release, while some other devices are only given a vague release window for the update. Luckily, it looks like Huawei’s taking a step further and may be pushing out a 2.2 device in August. According to Engadget Chinese’s tipster, this entry-level phone’s rocking a 2.8-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera (possibly with dual-LED flash), and HSDPA 3G connectivity.

Palm files 8-K with SEC on merger, VP of PR Lynn Fox leaving

Okay, we’ve got lots of Palm news tonight, so take our hand and let us walk you through it. For starters, the company filed a 8-K report with the SEC today, which is a requirement when major changes (e.g.

iPhone 4 FaceTime over a MiFi connection: because we had to try

Okay, so you’re starting to come down from your post-purchase iPhone 4 gadget high and you’re getting into the habit of using it just like you would any other phone. FaceTime was a neat trick on day one, sure — but if there’s a single thing significantly limiting its day-to-day usefulness, it’s the fact that you can only use it over WiFi at the moment. Apple claims that they’ve got more work to do with carriers to make it usable over cellular, but how legit is that claim?

HP Mini 100e gets official for the little kickers

We hate to crush your dreams of a World Cup-branded netbook — and we know that’s exactly what that looks like up there — but it’s really just an example of how schools can customize HP’s new 10.1-inch Mini 100e. Sorry to have killed everything you’ve ever had to live for, but doesn’t it make you happy to know that the kids can watch Justin Bieber NOVA videos on netbooks with different colors and designs? Rhetorical questions aside, HP’s finally sharing the details on the education-aimed laptop we spotted a few weeks ago at Computex, and as expected, it has the typical netbook internals, including an Intel Atom N455 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a choice of decently sized hard drives.

Sony selling AMD powered VAIOs for the first time in years

We’ve been keeping a close eye on AMD’s big laptop comeback over the last couple of months, and in addition to gaining steam with HP , Dell , Toshiba and Lenovo , it appears AMD’s also gotten Sony back into its court. Both Fry’s and Best Buy are now carrying AMD Athlon II X2-powered machines, and as you may expect, the prices are quite tempting. Conversely, the Intel-based lineup ranges from $699 to $799, but until we get our hands on one of these ourselves, there isn’t exactly a fair comparison to draw at this point
