Since their third-place finish in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge , TORC Technology’s had quite a climb — the company founded by Virginia Tech graduates has since provided IED-scouting Humvee kits to the US Military, and a vehicle for the blind uses the drive-by-wire platform that they designed. Now, the Marines are testing a TORC kit called the Ground Unmanned Support Surrogate (GUSS), which autonomously navigate off-road terrain.

Burger King uses ‘musical shower’ as latest trick to entice Japanese clientele

A new Burger King eatery opening up in Japan isn’t usually something we concern ourselves too much with, but this one comes with an interesting new twist. Those umbrella-aping translucent cones hanging over the tables are known as “musical showers,” and their function is to deliver music in an isolated fashion to you and your significant — but not too significant, it’s still BK, after all — other.

After months of speculation the wait is almost over and Hulu Plus is just about upon us . Hulu was nice enough to share an invite with us so we could to try it out — sorry, we don’t have any extras — and we happen to have a Samsung LED LCD TV in the lab to give it a go. And of course, we also tried it the old fashioned way (in the browser) as well as via Hulu Desktop , on the iPhone, and on the iPad — sadly it isn’t live on the Xbox 360 or PS3 yet

Packard Bell Dot S4 netbook spied in Italy

Packard Bell ‘s launched a refresh of its Dot line — at least internationally — with the 10.1-inch S4. The company’s thinned it down considerably here, and stuffed an Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail CPU, GMA 3150 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, and an up to 250GB hard drive

The Guardian case from M-Edge claims to be the world’s first waterproof flotation device for the Kindle , allowing users a “hands-free” reading experience whether they’re in the bathtub or the pool. Resisting aquatic incursions to a depth of one meter, the Guardian comes with three internal buoyancy chambers, a dual hinge, a four-latch closing system, and flexible button cutouts to keep the keyboard useful.

When we heard an upstart named People of Lava were going to beat Google to the punch with an all-in-one TV set, we were confused, amused and skeptical all at the same time. Thankfully, Expert Reviews made a special trip to Sweden to see the company’s Android-powered television in action, and now we know what the unit actually does — it switches between an Android interface and a discrete TV mode without actually mixing the two in any appreciable fashion

We can’t help but wonder why BP refuses to use hair mats donated from thousands of businesses to clean up the slick, but we’re glad that the nuclear option is off the table for now
