White PS3 Slim hits Japan July 29th with 160GB and 320GB HDD options
Looks like we’ve (almost) solved the mystery of PlayStation 3′s FCC-bound CECH-2501 models . Sony just announced a “classic white” PS3 Slim (as opposed to the “ceramic white” original ) for Japan, model CECH-2500, coming July 29th — and not just with the typical 160GB HDD. For 34,980 yen (about $400 translated to US currency), you can now start off with 320GB of storage

3D displays and haptic interfaces come together in HIRO III
The Kawasaki and Mouri Laboratory at Gifu University in Japan are researching and developing a touch interface which, combined with 3D displays, could offer a new way to simulate the touching of objects. HIRO III is a haptic interface robot which can provide realistic kinesthetic sensations to the user’s hand and fingers, while the 3D display provides the visual experience. Possible applications include medical diagnostics training, but for now, HIRO III is still in the lab.
Pointgrab’s motion sensing tech coming to more laptops, we go hands-off
Yeah, so we haven’t been the biggest proponents of motion sensing laptops — it’s sort of hard to see the point when you’ve usually got your hands on the keyboard or touchpad to control the screen — but apparently Pointgrab’s software is gaining some traction. The software, which works with any 2D webcam, is currently being shipped on Fujitsu Lifebook AH laptops in Japan, but it’ll be expanding to other markets soon. In addition, we were told another laptop maker would be preloading it “before the end of the year.” Interesting .
