LG Display and iriver enter joint venture to make e-book readers pretty, affordable
Well what do you know, turns out the LB4400 was a harbinger of things to come. LG Display and iriver just announced a $5M joint venture to manufacture e-book readers. The new China-based company, L&I Electronic Technology (Dongguan) Ltd, sees iriver doing the platform development and product design (thank gawd) while LG provides the EPD displays

We did ponder how you can rename the Orange and T-Mobile coalition (topical word, eh Britain?) without offending either party, and the strategy seems to have been to just go for a name so bombastic that it overshadows all other concerns. Say hello to Everything Everywhere
RoboCup Japan Open underway in Osaka, mechanical soccer still pretty boring (video)
They can be adapted to a wide range of human activities — spying, killing, and assembling automobiles, to name but a few — but as the various RoboCup competitions remind us time and again, our soccer fields are safe from robot encroachment for the time being. The above specimen, a joint venture by researchers at Osaka University and the Osaka Institute of Technology, is in the Adult Size Class, competing against robots between 130 and 160 centimeters (4.25 and 5.25 feet) tall.
Intel and Micron start 25nm flash production; SSDs to get cheap, huge
Intel and Micron have a history of pushing the state-of-the-art in flash storage — their joint venture IMFT was responsible for the first sub-40nm NAND flash and bringing it to production — and it looks they’ve done it again: IMFT is now sampling two-bits-per-cell 25nm NAND, which will eventually push prices down and capacities up when volume production begins in Q2. We’ll have to see how pricing works out — 25nm is something like twice the storage density per dollar, so we’re hopeful — but at the very least Intel’s third-gen X25-M will come in 160GB, 320GB, and 600GB sizes when it launches in Q4 using these new chips.
Garmin-Asus taking wraps off first Android gear, M10 WinMo phone at MWC
It might be happening a little later than they’d originally hoped , but Garmin — through its partnership in Garmin-Asus — should finally be unveiling some Android-based phones pretty shortly in an effort to kickstart the firm’s weak showing thus far in the dog-eat-dog handset world.
