Nintendo 3DS more powerful than a Wii, won’t use Tegra?

Nintendo’s next portable will be as potent as a current-gen home console, if you believe the latest rumors out of IGN and Eurogamer, but it won’t have a Tegra chip under the hood. Multiple independent sources now say that NVIDIA’s SoC is out of the autostereoscopic picture as the 3D handheld nears completion, and further confirm that the project codename is “CTR” — which reminds us of a certain Nintendo motherboard .

PlayStation emulator coming to Android, courtesy of yongzh and ZodTTD

If you don’t know the names yongzh and ZodTTD , you can certainly be forgiven, but they’re basically the cell phone emulation dream team — where the former has been cranking out high-quality Nintendo and Sega emulators for Android, the latter is the one who brought PSX to iPhone , iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre . Today, we hear they’re collaborating on a PSX emulator for Android that’s running faster than the 3GS version — before Froyo’s even factored into the equation — and that when his domination over the PSX is complete, ZodTTD intends to begin work on an Nintendo 64 emulator for Android, and then VLC . Without letting our enthusiasm get the better of us, let’s just say it’s an exciting time to be an Android owner, to say the least.

Nintendo trims DSi and DSi LL prices in Japan, makes no promises for rest of the world

Good news for Nippon-based handheld lovers: from June 19, Nintendo will be selling the DSi at a new reduced price of ?15,000 ($165), accompanied by a more affordable DSi LL , which lands at ?18,000 ($198). That will make the jumbo portable console cheaper than the regular-sized one costs today, while the whole effort seems clearly aimed at maintaining the market for Nintendo’s classical wares after it blows all our minds with its 3DS debut at E3 in a couple of weeks

PlayStation tattoo gun mod gets inmate a stern rebuke, admiration from his cell block

When an inmate at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre near Gatwick, West Sussex, England, needed access to a tattoo gun (presumably banned in UK lockups, just as they are in the US) inspiration struck. According to The Sun , the inmate used the motor of a PlayStation’s optical drive to move a sharpened ball-point pen. Sure, there are better ways to get ink — such as waiting to be released — but it ain’t exactly a prison tattoo if you don’t get it in prison

CSIRO’s patent fight targets more victims: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile

Is anyone safe from the wrath of Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization ? It’s looking unlikely, with the company expanding its patent lawsuit furor to cover three more major players: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile.

Wii Controller Demo gets active, Android and Wiimote handle Donkey Kong on video

We knew the Wii Controller Demo app (now known as “Wii Controller IME”) was close to being able to interact with Android in a meaningful way, but we certainly didn’t expect to see Average Joes playing Donkey Kong on their Nexus One devices this soon.
