QIK admits Evo 4G launch problems after 20x increase on server load

While record sales are generally a desireable thing, that one-time spike in demand can leave service providers scrambling to cope on launch day. Evo 4G owners are well aware of this after noticing one of the handset’s flagship features — Qik video calling — was unavailable in the Android Market on Friday. After correcting the issue, Qik then had to pull the app after users experienced intermittent service failures resulting from what Qik calls “an unprecedented 20x” workload increase on its servers

Botched McAfee update shutting down corporate XP machines worldwide

We can’t officially confirm this yet but, We’re hearing from all over that a bad McAfee for Windows XP update is causing computers worldwide to shut down. Apparently DAT update 5958 deletes the svchost.exe file, which then triggers a false-positive in McAfee itself and sets off a chain of uncontrolled restarts and loss of networking functionality


South Korea seeks to impose gaming curfew, makes computers ‘edgy’ and ‘cool’ in the process

Seems like China and the UK aren’t the only countries worried about their kid’s computing habits. According to the BBC, the South Korean government is currently mulling over plans to regulate just how much time — and at what time — kids play video games. It seems that a number of services are ready to follow through with suggestions made by the country’s Ministry of Culture, including: Maple Story, Mabinogi (no access granted to school-age gamers between midnight and 8 am) and Dungeon and Fighter (slowing down user’s connection after they’ve been logged in for a certain period of time)
