Amazon Kindle dual-screen e-reader patent granted, Barnes & Noble Nook potentially in trouble

Looks like the battle for e-reader dominance between Amazon and Barnes & Noble could soon expand beyond the recent spate of price drops and into the courtroom as well: the USPTO just granted a 2006 Amazon patent on e-readers with secondary LCD displays (like the original Kindle’s scroller-navigation panel ), and several of the claims are potentially broad enough to cover the Nook and many other devices with both electronic paper and LCD displays. What’s more, Amazon agreed not to file for any corresponding foreign patents during the four-year approval process and thus wasn’t required to publish the patent application — meaning this is likely a complete surprise to the entire industry

White PS3 Slim hits Japan July 29th with 160GB and 320GB HDD options

Looks like we’ve (almost) solved the mystery of PlayStation 3′s FCC-bound CECH-2501 models . Sony just announced a “classic white” PS3 Slim (as opposed to the “ceramic white” original ) for Japan, model CECH-2500, coming July 29th — and not just with the typical 160GB HDD. For 34,980 yen (about $400 translated to US currency), you can now start off with 320GB of storage

Penguin United’s Eagle Eye brings WASD to your PS3 shooters, disrespect to your enemies (video)

With the PS3′s plethora of USB ports scattered across the front, you’d think it’d be a no-brainer that all shooters on the console would support keyboard and mouse controls to make the FPS purists happy. Sadly that’s not nearly the case, so it’s up to companies like Penguin United (creators of a fine array of silly Wii peripherals) to fill the void.

How would you change Sony’s VAIO P?

Sony’s VAIO P has been around since last decade , but just recently Sony decided to pry it out of the company’s left rear pocket in order to reface it and bless it with a few updated components. We still have a hard time stomaching the $800 price tag, but there’s honestly not much competition when looking specifically at this form factor

Hands-on with Hulu Plus via Samsung HDTV, iPhone and iPad

After months of speculation the wait is almost over and Hulu Plus is just about upon us . Hulu was nice enough to share an invite with us so we could to try it out — sorry, we don’t have any extras — and we happen to have a Samsung LED LCD TV in the lab to give it a go. And of course, we also tried it the old fashioned way (in the browser) as well as via Hulu Desktop , on the iPhone, and on the iPad — sadly it isn’t live on the Xbox 360 or PS3 yet

Hulu CEO: we’re ‘complimentary’ to cable

Hoping to trade in your expensive cable or satellite plan for a nice, juicy melon ball of cottage cheese-like… we mean, a portable Hulu Plus subscription at $10 a month?
