iPhone 4 FaceTime over a MiFi connection: because we had to try

Okay, so you’re starting to come down from your post-purchase iPhone 4 gadget high and you’re getting into the habit of using it just like you would any other phone. FaceTime was a neat trick on day one, sure — but if there’s a single thing significantly limiting its day-to-day usefulness, it’s the fact that you can only use it over WiFi at the moment. Apple claims that they’ve got more work to do with carriers to make it usable over cellular, but how legit is that claim?

Droid X vs. iPhone 4… hang out!

So, these aren’t exactly the most similar phones ever. The Droid X has Android, a high res 4.3-inch screen, Verizon, and a hump in back

Verizon’s Droid Eris goes on permanent vacation

You might have figured that the recent update to Android 2.1 would’ve given Verizon’s Droid Eris a few months of additional shelf life, but alas, it was not to be; the phone is no longer available from Verizon’s online store, and we’d assume that any remaining inventory in the field will dwindle to nothingness in the coming weeks. If anything, it seems like the device — basically a tweaked Hero — would be able to effectively soldier on indefinitely for $50 or so on contract, but maybe the carrier’s intent on keeping Android a higher-end affair for the time being.

How would you change HTC’s Droid Incredible?

Yeah, we called it the best Android device in America during our review back in April, and even today it’s somewhat difficult to track down, but that’s not to suggest that HTC’s Droid Incredible is free of flaws. The Sense-enabled smartphone is the current flagship in VZW’s stable, and while the EVO 4G may offer faster connections (in select locales) and a larger display, the Droid Incredible still has its fair share of proponents.

Mysterious Motorola Droid X coming to Verizon?

The gang at Phandroid have got their hands on pics alleging to be Verizon internal documentation that details an up-and-coming handset called the Droid X. Honestly, this sounds like it could still be an internal name to us, although there has been some speculation that the handset is, in fact, the launch name of the Motorola Shadow / Xtreme that would be accompanying the Droid 2 for a Summer launch. Moving on down the line, this thing purportedly has a 4.3-inch display and Safari 4.0 for the browser

Motorola Droid 2 fully exposed?

And finally, the puzzle pieces are coming together. There’s been a lot of confusion the past few weeks about these two new models for Verizon in Motorola’s pipeline, but by all accounts, this seems to be the A955 Droid 2 in its entirety — the true successor to the original Droid , of course, and a distinctly different product than the more slate-like Xtreme . It looks like Moto has killed off the Droid’s major pain points, giving the new model a more tactile keyboard and eliminating the nearly useless d-pad; the shiny bezel around the top half is a matter of personal opinion, but we don’t think we mind it from the blurry shots we’ve seen
